O'Connor joined the British diplomatic service in 2001 and has held various roles in London and around the world. She was first secretary in the Prosperity office in Mexico, and second political secretary in Moscow. She was also Director of International Development at the UK Permanent Representation to the UN in New York. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
